The CW Boosts Their Lineup With 8 New Series

The CW announced its primetime schedule for the 2007-08 season today, adding eight new series to the lineup. Following a year built mainly on the safety of returning shows from merged networks UPN and The WB, The CW hopes to gain momentum (and a stronger identity) with their new fall offerings.

"Our new shows have attitude and a sense of fun, and they're going to define this network," said Dawn Ostroff, CW Entertainment President.

Three new dramas are slated to premiere in the fall:

"Gossip Girl," from "The O.C." creator Josh Schwartz, looks at the lives of privileged teenagers who attend an elite private school in New York City. According to Entertainment Weekly, the show features narration by Kristen Bell, star of "Veronica Mars" (which will not be returning next season). Schwartz does double-duty next year, as he's also serving as writer and executive producer of NBC's "Chuck."

"The Reaper" tells the tale of a twenty-something slacker who works as a bounty hunter for the devil, chasing down hell's escaped convicts.

With "7th Heaven" departing the airwaves, The CW is filling that family programming void with "Life Is Wild," about a New York family that relocates to South Africa to spend a year in a game reserve's less-than-luxurios lodge.

One new comedy is being added to The CW's fall slate. "Aliens in America" teams a nerdy 16 year-old with a Pakistani exchange student, as they rely on each other to survive the horrors of high school.

Two new unscripted series debut in the Fall: "CW Now," an entertainment news program targeting teens and young adults; and "Online Nation," which will showcase outrageous and funny online clips.

Two other reality shows will debut mid-season. "Farmer Wants a Wife" is described as across between "The Bachelor" and "Green Acres," while "Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants," will feature Carson Kressley and Shanna Moakler judging teams of daughters and their moms competing for a beauty title.

Returning series include "Smallville," "Supernatural," "Everybody Hates Chris," "America's Next Top Model," "Girlfriends," "The Game," "Beauty and the Geek," and "Friday Night Smackdown!," with a re-tooled "One Tree Hill" returning mid-season.
